Michael in the book of daniel12/24/2022 In the first year of Darius, Peniel came to consolidate the victory of Persia over Babylon. Michael then came to help him, since Michael was the prince of Judah that was captive in Babylon. He was resisted by the prince of Persia, who was Peniel’s natural enemy (counterpart). When Daniel began to seek God’s face in chapter 9, Peniel, was sent with a message to the prophet. When the Red Dragon’s mandate to rule expired (after 70 years), Michael was sent to overthrow him, and the result was that Babylon was overthrown at the hands of Cyrus and Darius. Because Michael is the counterpart to the Red Dragon, this implies that the Red Dragon is the spiritual prince of Babylon. ![]() It appears that Michael had been the main archangel that was conducting the overthrow of Babylon on behalf of Judah, and that Peniel showed up afterward to fortify Michael’s position and to consolidate his victory. 1 And I-in year one of Darius the Mede, my position was to make him steadfast and to strengthen him.ĭaniel learned that when Babylon fell and Darius the Mede took the city, Peniel’s “position” ( amad, “stood up, took a stand”) was to “make him steadfast” ( khazakh, “strengthen, harden, encourage”) and to ( maowz, “fortify”) Michael’s position in the warfare. Reading from The Concordant Version, Peniel’s statement reads this way:Ģ9 … No one will be steadfast with me in these things save Michael your chief. The “him” in this case is not Darius the Mede, but Michael the Archangel. Instead, it was the end of Peniel’s conversation in regard to his alliance with Michael. It was not meant to establish the date of the revelation in the rest of Daniel 11. This verse properly belongs at the end of chapter 10. The Devil can do his worst, but “he not strong enough” to conquer heaven’s forces (Revelation 12:8).Daniel 11:1 (NASB) Peniel tells the prophet,ġ And in the first year of Darius the Mede, I arose to be an encouragement and a protection for him. Michael the archangel is a strong angelic prince who protects Israel and submissively serves God by doing battle against Satan. There is a spiritual war being fought over the hearts and souls of mankind. those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus” (Revelation 12:17). There, enraged, Satan “went off to wage war against. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.” Michael and the forces of heaven defeat the dragon (Satan), and the Devil is hurled to the earth. ![]() During the tribulation, “war broke out in heaven. The last mention of Michael the archangel appears in Revelation 12:7. The rapture of the church will be accompanied by “the voice of the archangel” (1 Thessalonians 4:16) this could be a reference to Michael, but Scripture does not specifically name him here. Israel is guaranteed protection during this time, which will be followed by a great resurrection of the dead-some to everlasting life and others to everlasting shame (Daniel 12:2). Daniel was told by the angel of the Lord that, during the time of the end, Michael will “arise” and there would be a time of unsurpassed trouble-a reference to the Great Tribulation (Daniel 12:1). ![]() Michael the archangel has, it seems, a prominent role in the events of the end times. There are others-Daniel 10:13 says that Michael is “one of the chief princes.” The fact that Michael is a “great prince” indicates that he has authority in the spiritual realm. The demons seem to have a similar hierarchy (see Daniel 10:20). Daniel’s people are the Jews, and the fact that Michael “protects” them suggests that God has set various holy angels over various countries or people groups. The prophet Daniel is told that Michael the archangel is “the great prince who protects your people” (Daniel 12:1). If the submission of angels is an argument for woman’s submission, we can see that submission is never meant to take away a woman’s strength or purpose or value. Taking into consideration the strength of Michael the archangel, his submission to God is all the more beautiful. The righteous angels have a rank and are submissive to authority, and for this reason they are used as a picture of a wife’s submission to her husband (1 Corinthians 11:10). His dependence on the Lord’s power is seen in Jude 1:9. Despite his great power, Michael is still in total submission to the Lord.
